  Thanks dreamer  icon_thumright
Nicer then where I live, here they build more and more apartments, I like that town as your then in  Wiltshire, and it shops are still old, only today I noticed there in middle of laying new pavements, with seperate parking bays. before you could park practically anywhere, and the parking is all free.

It's smog.  And yes, there are some parks but few ponds.  Los Angeles is basically a desert.  The only reason there is so much greenery is because of all the people who live here (about 10 million) which raises the humidity, and of course, there are sprinklers everywhere to water the landscape.  The native landscape is very dry, like Greece or the south of France in the summer.

And why I am here? Because many moons ago I was living in Paris and met this American from Los Angeles and came out here to be with him.  But it turned out he already had a wife.  I didn't want to turn tail and go back home immediately, so I got a job with the British Consulate and six months later, when I was about to go back to France, I met someone I had known in London.  We got married and then divorced and I stayed and stayed and stayed until I had made at least a working life here.  Life here was very easy compared to the U.K.  Things have changed a lot now.  When I retire I am planning to come back to Paignton, to live in a smaller, slower, civilized society.  Debbie is going to be my carer when I get too decrepit to look after myself!

I think you will find a very different uk to the one you left behind, but hope you enjoy it anyway.

That photo of los angeles and all that smog reminds me of when I went to athens and climbed up to the parthenon and as you looked down all you saw was this incredible layer of what looked like smoke all over the city.Like a huge cloud. Halo

Oh I don't know about the UK.  I have been coming back to Paignton and London every year for the past 11 years and before that, every couple of years, so I think I know what it's like.
