Or an upgrade on the computer out with the old in with the new windoze 7 and just think that lightning speeds and no hangs, freezes or blue screen of death. may still get "windows has encountered a problem and has had to close"

So what is the problem? windows dont know..... :earache:
I may not be perfect, but being this close to it is spooky

Have you tried Windows 7 Rad, if so, what do you think of it? As if it's any good, I'll get it.  Anything has to be better than Vista

I have just sat and typed loads of information and as I am networked to our company W 7 system I hate it so now I am on my own laptop and will start again.
We have a Rolls Royce of a system running Windows 7 so we then have to run a virtual XP version ? so that this super duper pile of plastic and chips can operate though it has trouble with printers, and navigation management systems and it will not communicate with any of the ships internal computer system?

So this Rolls Royce is converted to a 1960 A type mini ??? IT costs a fortune to come aboard and they are here more than I am! It may look good and may sound like they have thought about the system but M S have made yet another OS and even though they have tested it (so they say) it has the normal new system glitches IMHO

I run Vista on my own laptop and have XP as a dual boot but have never used it yet so I may remove it to gain the space back on the HD. We went from XP to Vista and I was able to sort out the odd hic-up between the change over but this new idea of W7 has me lost in space and even one of our IT's came aboard to try and make the system communicate with navigational printers and management systems, she opened her laptop and it booted to Vista?

I don't like it at the moment! as I did not like the new MS Office, but I have now found my way around it so I can use both the new and the old and its the same with the OS I am happy with XP at home and Vista everywhere else.

I don't think I'd want to do a format and reinstall.  I'd be afraid of losing everything! :hair:

If you only have C: on your HD you's have to backup all your Data.  I have muliple partitions on my HD so when I format C: all of my data is safe on the other partitions.  When I format C: though, all of my programs have to be reinstalled as a certain amount files goes directly to C: when you install a program (I install my programs in my partition E:) and of course those files are lost when you format so I usually format E: as well

PP If I remember you are on Vista, so why not try a system restore.?

you would not loose your personal file stuff just restore back to a time when YOU knew the system was working well, any program that you have installed after your restore date may need to be reinstalled but your files and information will be reverted.

If you are on Vista then you should have a "data" partition where the pre installed software was put by the manufacture (unless you deleted it) or had a custom build system in which case you should have been asked to burn an image restore set of disc's.

Do a clean out old cookies and unwanted programs then defragment the drives, then see how the speeds are, I only have one other thing to say and that was told to me by our company IT

"A computer is only as fast as the slowest part in its operation"

I use ccleaner for cleaning my 'Junk Files'   You can get it at http://www.ccleaner.com/

In Vista, the defrag option takes aaaggges so I use 'Smart Defrag' which is good and fast.  You can get it at http://www.iobit.com/iobitsmartdefrag.html

Both are FREE

Oh I do a defrag and disk cleanup once in a while.  I don't pay for  the fastest broadband but what I have is enough for me.
