i`m doing a Rad here now.  :chuckling:

Just wondering how do posts get put into the Archive section.  Is it automatic, or are they picked out,  or once they
get to a certain age?

Will they stay there, or do they get finally deleted away?

Only asking as being nosey curious. :ponder: :wink10:

they end up there because someone dumps them there, this has no benefit to the board.
1. it breaks all the links from search engines thus dropping the board listing from the search engines
2. guests and people thinking of joining don't because  the board looks empty
3. it makes it difficult to find things
I could go on

if this were a big board with lots of posts and users it might be worthwhile, but this board is not. it only has a totally negative out come.
so negative in fact that in it's current state I am wondering if it's now worth my time and effort of keeping it going

Please clarify one little thing for me (and the others that may be a bit cuffuffled)

Are you saying that?

1  you are wondering whether to keep the Archive part of the board going...

                                                     OR

2 You are thinking of ending the IGLOO Forum board in general

                                                      I

For one would not like this board to vanish I have had a wonderful time here which has been much better than ANY other board that I have visited for this type of discussion and time passing activity, the people here are friendly and helpfull.
When any question is asked there is normally an answer from admin or others, this all goes to making this forum the tops for me Yes I have others in my life but they are specialist boards much like this is a board for its own special reasons
It brings fun and enjoyment to the posters that frequent its pages.
I have not seen any malace of abusive content which must say a lot for the way this board is put together and run so 99 please answer.

R, a d dison

I'm pretty sure 99 meant the 'Archive' part Rad

Heaven help us if the Board vanished.  :hair:

I belong to 2 other Forums, but they're second-class compared to Igloo, and as you said, the people are great, very helpful and have a unique sense of humour

Unfortunately I think it is the whole forum that 99 is talking about. Hosting, running and maintaining a board such as this is very time consuming and has been done as a labour of love by 99, so to see things being done on it that prevents it from functioning as he envisions is more than a little disheartening.

The Igloo has become a very special place for me to visit and I would hate to see it disappear but then I don't have to spend the time 99 does in maintaining it so can see why he would get upset when something is done causes him more work.

While I think the changes that were made were done innocently with the intention of cleaning up the board a bit, the fact remains that they have caused some problems in the boards operation and consequently have degraded the board somewhat.

Just hope that you consider all the options, pros as well as cons before pulling the plug 99, we all need our Igloo fix.  :typing:

I know that running a board is very time consuming and I would be at a loss to wake up one day without being able to pop into the igloo

I am crossing every thing in the hope that our 99 keeps the igloo going.

Is there any thing we could do to help keep the board alive?

sorry if I appear to be a bit thick, i know nothing about running a site, but firstly who is it that has dumped threads in the archive.
Secondly once they have been put into archives can they not be put back to where they were?
as I have said i understand nothing of the running of the board but just thought any idea may be helpful. It would be a shame if igloo were to close down. :halo:

er, not sure what has actually been done here?  since you appear to be in the know - can you explain?

Archiving is usually and regular part of maintenance of running a discussion board.

Excuse my confusion, but what exactly upset you?

Was it any one of the members?

I believe that you're doing a fantastic job and I for one really appreciate everything that you've done and are still doing.  If there is anything, bring it out in the open, as we can't help if we don't know what it is

Oh my goodness 99, you know we all think you've done a fantastic job with the board.  No one is as good as you in sorting and fixing technical hiccups.  The board works so well and is so easy to use that it's a pleasure posting.  We are all big fans.  I for one would be lost without the Igloo.  I have made so many friends and we are all there for each other when something bad happens in our lives (and something good too).  Other boards are bitchy or uninterested.  This is a very special board and you should feel very proud of what you have accomplished here.  I know the other admins help but it is you that holds the thing together.  So I am very glad to hear that you are not shutting it down. :dancer:

thanks 99 for carrying on with the board, although im still not sure who has done what and why they would have done it if they had known it would cause such problems and jepodise the running of the site. :halo:
