New PM new government
« on: 13 May 2010, 20:37:45 »
So we have a new Prime Minister, and a brand new government.

They can`t do any worse I guess.

And am already liking some of their plans..

No HIP when selling property, no 3rd runway for Heathrow.  5% drop in pay for MP`s.
( could be more   :wink10:
Wonder what there policies will be for hunting, and classic cars on road.  At moment the cut off date for no road tax for classic vehicles is  1973.

We have a old classic car it`s 34 yrs old, we only go out in it about 4 times a year, tax it for 6 months,  then keep it off road with a SORN.  Only because it would just be too expensive to fork out for a whole year.

Where as someone say could drive a car a couple years older say every day, as main car.
And get free road tax.

 :dontknow:

I like the plan for a referendum on proportional representation.  I'm all for that.  This winner take all stuff is not exactly democratic.

I am more for AV myself. Mostly I am against having parties doing deals to get a majority, I don't want to vote for a party based on what it says it's going to do and then see that change as it has to deal with another party to get a majority. On the other hand I don't want to see a party with fewer members stay in power because there is no majority.
No happy about members who have lost there seats hanging around trying to do deals either

I think it will be good for the country myself - a change is as good as a rest - my only reservation is the possible repeal of the Hunting Act - but our local MP Adrian Sanders is an avid anti-hunt man so that is at least reassuring.

We have had a minority government for a few years now and it seems to work better than a majority one as the party in power can't just ram things through.

Of course Mr Harper our current PM has found that if it looks like  the vote will go against him he just cancels the current sitting of Parliament, has done it twice recently.

Don't really think it matters which party is in as they are all crooks, sorry I take that back. One or two percent may actually care more about the people than they do of lining their own nest, although that estimate might be really high.

A lot of our Provincial government members were recently caught with their hands in the till but so far none of them have been charged with theft. Once caught they claimed that they thought what they were doing was allowed. There is now a lot of surplus furniture, cameras generators in government surplus plus thousands of $$$$ have had to be paid back.

Federally all of Parliament voted not to allow the auditor general to review their claims. Not sure what the outcome would be anyway after all if they all were found to be abusing the system who would be left to run the country.

Reminds me of a joke I heard recently where a florist went to the barber for a haircut and when he tried to pay for it the barber said "No charge  for you this time as your flower displays brighten up the street. Next day there was a beautiful bouquet outside his door when he opened up.
A police officer stopped by for a haircut and the same thing happened to him as the barber said he thought the officer did a great job of keeping his neighbourhood safe. Next day there was a box of donuts waiting for the barber when he got to work.
A politician came for a haircut and once again the barber refused payment (can't remember why). The next day when the barber opened his shop all the politicians were there waiting for their free haircut.

But enough about these poor misunderstood gits.

They talk about ‘Car Salesmen’ being crooks but they’re little angels compared to Politicians and I don’t know of any country that doesn’t apply to

lets face it it is the only chance the liberals will ever  get a chance of any power, and as people are fed up with labour, it was obvious they would side with the conservatives, and then the pair of them I believe ( I may be wrong ) havedone a deal of 5 years  between them. Checkmate I believe .
They are all a load of underhand crooks and i am pleased to say I didnt vote for any of the 3 main parties,

Good on you Dreamer!
But I hope you did vote.

Think I will look for an independent candidate next time. Not that they will be any less crooked but at least they can vote with their conscience and not have to follow their parties line,.

Hmm wonder who would be in charge if only independents got in?

IMHO it's just a waste of a vote to vote for minor parties who haven't a chance in hell of getting in.  Isn't Torbay Lib-Dems, although I don't know who the MP is.  I know my parents who lived in Galmpton were in the Totnes district and had Anthony Steen as MP.

Would you vote for one of the major parties knowing that they're useless? I wouldn't.  The minor parties will never become a major party if no one votes for them.  One lone voice (if it's loud enough) can make a big difference.  When too many people vote for a major party, they come complacent and think they don't have to try get elected

One lone voice can never be loud enough unless enough people are motivated to follow them.  And certainly in US politics, that does not look likely!

that is exactly what i did, I voted for a minor party, some say it may have been a wasted vote but I really in all fairness just couldnot bring myself to vote for any of the other underhand wasters, i am not a hypocrite and I would have felt like one had I voted for any one of the 3 top parties,

As you say gerry unless someone votes for these minor parties they will never get a hold anywhere. And I think that quite a few people in the uk did just that this time. :halo:

If more people did that Dreamer, eventually you'd get a Government who'd try that little bit more knowing that your vote has to be earned

I know, isn't that ridiculous.  When my parents lived in Galmpton, they were in the South Hams.  But it's hard to imagine where 99 lives not being part of Torbay!  I guess that's still Anthony Steen who, I believe is conservative.

im with you on that one pp, I notice already one of the new ministers is allegedly resigning, as it has been found out he gave tens of thousands to his partner for a second home, Here we go again, once again the uk is governed by a load of wasters. Guy Fawkes had the right idea years ago!!!!! :littlea:
