Oh, I didn't know it was a Honda. They are usually very good on petrol. You could of course replace it with a Toyota Prius, which is a hybrid. And I believe Toyota is coming out with a hybrid SUV, which would be even more suitable for towing your trailer.
Mmm "Hybrid" now this may or may not surprise you but the "hybrid" at this time no matter who construct it have a carbon footprint that large they are actually damaging the planet more than the vehicle they are designed to replace.
I have a CRV because it has shape to it.
I have my Honda CRV for more reasons than I have stated so far, to which here are the rest;
I have a 'bad back' getting into and out of my CRV is easy, not so lower vehicles (or higher ones)
I have a model boat which will fit in the rear compartment easily, not so on vehicles with a trunk / boot.
My CRV has excellent ALL round visibility, Unlike some vehicles with large door / screen & tailgate posts
My CRV has a ride height correct for towing trailers, unlike some lower vehicles
I could go on and on with the for's but as you can see I have my car because I and it fit together, In my work I get to drive all sorts of hire cars from just about every manufacturer there is and possibly there is only one or two out there that I concider worth driving.
sorry to go on but here in the UK its become a media goldmine to jump up and down on "THE GAS GUZZLER 4BY4" and most of the people rantting about the "Chelsea Tractor" or "Gas Guzzler" in parliment have them in the family some where? (2 Jags Prescott)!! need I say more?
