as I am going to be away without internet access several times this year, I got a mobile broadband setup.
This is a USB device that connects to the internet via a 3G mobile phone connection. Tested it and it does have broadband speed. Has 5GB download limit a month which is more than enough.
Going to use it on holiday and Jackie will use it until she gets her internet sorted.
If any Igloo member wants to borrow it when i am not using it they are welcome.
It's a nicely thought out device, when you first plug the device it in, the device acts as a memory stick with the drivers on it. The drivers auto install and then the device converts to a usb modem.

Been on one for a while now which is how I get to surf while at work (dont tell them)
My one is unlimited and speeds are fine but vidio streaming can be a pain then if you are in a very high use area the speed drops right down but that is a small price to pay for the enjoyment of Igloo icon_thumright

You are far too generous 99.  Might take you up on that offer one of these days.  Probably less risky than lending me your laptop, lol!

you would be welcome to borrow it PP. Just don't run it over the 5GB limit as it gets rather expensive then. lol

using 3 myself and it seems ok.
if anyone is getting mobile or phone on 3 let me know and i will recommend you via 3's site. We would each get money off our bill, i expect other operators do the same so worth checking if you know someone, as you each get cash

I have one question.  When you use a mobile to connect to the Internet, isn't it expensive for the length of time that you’re connected?  To make an ordinary call with a mobile, it's a lot more expensive that a landline call and I would have thought that connecting to the Net via a mobile would be exorbitant?

I have been using mobile internet for about a year now and it has been fantastic to be able to send / receive mail and stuff while at work.
the cost is £20.00 per month and for that I get an unlimited download and free hotspot useage (subject to fair use) now that is dearer than a land line system but how much would the wire extension leads cost me so I can use the net while on the ship?  bigsmile

So it doesn't cost you anything for the call then Rad?  When I was on dialup, I had to pay for the call each time I logged on, but with Broadband I'm connected all of the time, so apart from the amount my ISP charges me monthly for their service, that's all I have to pay, so you haven't really answered my question.  Are you charged for the call, and if so, is it a timed call?

For the home system I pay a one off per month and get FREE land line calls (national & Local) as well as the internet stuff on B/B
As for the mobile internet I also have my mobile phone which is a totally separate thing from the mobile internet card I use.

so at home its all in but on the move its down to pay to play  crybaby2

We don't get FREE land line calls (National or Local)but we do get a free connection to B/B for which we pay our ISP's

Our Local calls are not timed (one minute or one hour it doesn't matter) but our National calls are timed
