Isn't this country strange!

You can buy fireworks at just about any shop in the country and get this you don't need a permit!
yet they are explosives

Still each to their own.

I think and always will that displays should be organised events where the pyrotechnics are handled by qualified (powder monkeys)

Just my opinion

It's been illegal in Australia for many many years (not all States).  When we first came over, we used to be able to buy them and have the traditional bonfire, but now, only Pyrotechnics are allowed to detonate them and I agree with that, as they're too dangerous

well i organised it, so everyone was safe. have enough common sense to do it. stopped a few bangers being done to stop the 1 year old being scared. like all these things it ok as long as you are sensible about it.
if you have a healthy respect for these things all goes well, it's when you don't things go wrong.
shot a few guns in my time also, including an original colt 45 (lead ball and gun powder) and a sub machine gun etc. when i started i was told what i should and should not do. stuck to it.
things go wrong when all these things get into the hands of people who have no common sense. it's a shame if the fun is taken out of life because we have to work to the lowest common denominater.

normally i go to a display. but wanted to control things because i wanted my grandson to have fun and not be scared

Living in the same general area as your grandson and his family I am sure he is now well accustomed to bangers going off since this has been happening for a few weeks now!

The few irresponsible individuals always spoil it for the majority, and that’s with everything.  Maybe if the law severely punished “Wrong Doers” then there might be less of a ‘Big Brother’ attitude, but knowing Human Nature, I doubt if things will ever change

It's a real hodgepodge here regarding fireworks.  Every town and city have their own rules.  Some places you can buy and use "safe and sane" fireworks, other places you can't buy any sort of fireworks and it's illegal to set them off.  And yet other places, there are no restrictions on what sort of fireworks you can buy and use.

Personally I think they should be restricted to public displays and only things like sparklers should be available to the public.  Every year (fireworks are big on the 4th of July, Independence Day), some child gets their face blown away because they were looking down at a firework that hadn't gone off, and then it did.

How did it go? what did your grandson think of it all.

I remember one year my Son must have been bout 4, took him to big display, at a racing circuit nr here, we sat and waited for them to go off, and he just dropped off and fell asleep, was hard trying keep him awake with the fireworks even going off.   rofl

We off to a local display at the weekend, but that`s only if weather dry.
